My neighborhood is having a giant yard sale this weekend. I only just found out about it yesterday when one of my neighbors offered me first pick of all her vintage children's books. Of course, I jumped on it, and thirty minutes later, this is what I had:
I love children's books, and I tend to believe that they just don't make 'em like they used to. Here's a small sampling of the treasures that Charlie will hopefully love when he gets a little older:
And I love all the illustrations!
So, being as it's a new month, Charlie's due to turn four months old next week. In honor of the cutest baby ever, I'm hosting another book giveaway. Leave a comment on this post telling me who your absolute favorite fictional character is, and you'll be entered to win a book of your choice from our Amazon book store. I will pick a winner at noon on Thursday, October 8.
Good luck, everyone!

It's really hard to choose, because I love so many. I think for now I'm going to pick...Atticus Finch! :-D
Oh I love vintage children's books. What a wonderful thing. I have been collecting a few here and there for J's library. My favorite fictional character is, of course, Winnie the Pooh :)
Your neighbor is awesome! I've yet to find vintage for Cam, but we've yet to pass up a good animal book. :)
Deenie (Deenie by Judy Blume)
One of my favorite fictional characters is Lilus Kikus by Elena Poniatowska.
I'm so jealous of your new old books! Wish my parents had kept more of mine. My favorite fictional character was/is Anne of Green Gables.
Oh my goodness, lucky you. I like the enthusiastic little baby besides the pile.
Fave fictional character, hmmm, that's hard. The girly side in me wants to say Elizabeth Bennett but I really like Kiki Strike too.
Those books are so cool! I wish I still had my Richard Scarry ones :( Favorite chracter huh ,that's a tough one . . . cheesy, but Rebecca Bloomwood.
I definitely agree that they dont make them like they used to.
This is hard, but my favorite character is a toss up between Ramona Quimby and Holden Caulfield. Quite different ends of the spectrum.
adult book: Astrid from The Whores on the Hill
kids' book: Meg Murray from A Wrinkle in Time
My all time favorite is Hamlet......hands down......he is so deep and fascinating......and Highly intelligent.
I find that a total turn on mentally I would love nothing more then to have a conversation with him.
I agree with phairhead. Meg Murray is awesome. She was my favorite when I was 11-12, too. Heidi was my favorite when I was 8-9. And what's not to love about the grandmother in The Princess and the Goblin, by George McDonald? She was my favorite when I was 10. She might be my favorite today, too. I might have too many favorites. No giveaway for me!
Oh I love your books! My mom has a ton of old children's book - and a lot of first edition Dick and Jane books.
My favorite fictional character is Edward Cullen.
I'm kidding! I wonder how many people cringed? Seriously, I can't choose. I love and adore Lola from Charlie and Lola by Lauren Child. But I also dig on Nancy Clancy in Fancy Nancy and Max in Where the Wild Things Are (he so reminds me of Lil Man). The grown up in me loves Marianne in Sense and Sensibility. Hard question and I'm rambling!
Charlie next to all of those books is priceless!
After I saw this entry I realized that I had accidentally left my old Oscar Book in my student library. I scooped it up and took it back home to add to R's. That was one of my fave books as a kid.--Tameka
