Double Exposure #10

Happy July 4th! To commemorate this special holiday, I want to share two of my absolute favorite photography blogs: Sea and Sky and Shutter Sisters (The Daily Click).

Embarrassingly, I'm not sure how the whole concept behind the Shutter Sisters blog works. It appears that it's women nominating a photo taken by another woman to appear on the blog, but I could be wrong. What is awesome about this site is that it focuses on the sisterhood of photography. Some beautiful images have been posted on the blog:



Drool-worthy, yes? Yes, indeedy.

Now, Sea and Sky is another drool-worthy, collaborative blog. Here's what they say in their "About Us" section:

Sea and Sky is a collaborative photography project and journal. Sea is M from Seattle, WA and Sky is Gilly from northern England. We have never met in real life but met and have been photo-journaling on a photo community site for nearly a year. We decided to form our own journal, with side-by-side images comparing and contrasting our days lived far apart. There are no rules and we will not normally coordinate what we shoot. We may not even post every day as we’d like to enjoy the freedom and flexibility of making our own work. It’s an organic and free-form journal of our lives as they unfold.

As I tend to say when I like something a lot, I want to have babies with all of these pictures.

Double Exposure #9

I am so glad it's Friday. Not only is the weekend upon me, but I get to pick which blogs to post about.

1) Take a look at Business Guys on Business Trips. Anyone who's worked in an office will be able to relate to this. I love this one in particular:



Sadly, this very thing happens in my office quite often (and I'm sure it happens in every other office as well).

2) Faces in Places never fails to make me smile. Once you see these pictures, you will never be able to look at everyday objects without looking for their faces. (Well, I can't, at least.) With that in mind, allow me to introduce you to....

I've enjoyed going these regular weekly posts on this blog. It's fun sharing what I've been reading, and I especially love it when people tell me about other cool blogs. I think I will keep this feature around for awhile. I may be getting rid of the i heart youtube feature and replacing it with something else. I haven't decided what to replace it with, though. That's where you come in! What do you find interesting enough to tune in every week for? (Good gawd, that's a horrible sentence, but the alternative sounds just as bad.)

I was considering doing a day in the life post (accompanied by pictures, of course), kind of like they do on flickr, but I honestly don't know if the mundane details of my life are very interesting. Actually, I'm pretty sure they're not, but I suppose it's all in how I present myself, right?

Or I could do a weekly photo collage, or just a weekly post full of photos. Or I can keep the youtube feature. Or I can leave it and do nothing at all. The possibilities are endless!

Let me know what you think, though. You guys are the ones that read this thing.

Well, it's Friday again! Time for cool blog exploration!

1) Design for Mankind. I am not a design person, but I love design blogs, mainly because quite a few of them just seem to feature cool stuff. Design for Mankind sets itself apart by offering realistic advice for those creative types out there who want to escape the 9-5 world and focus on their dreams. Also, this blog offers a free monthly e-zine that is just filled with inspiration. It's definitely worth checking out.



2) Although I've been a faithful follower of i can has cheezburger for quite some time now, it was just this week that I realized there is an actual FAIL blog out there. Oh my, each day this blog makes me laugh so hard that I cry.

Double Exposure #7

Yay, it's Friday! I've been meaning to write; I have so much to say. But for now, here's the two blogs of the week that I want to share.

1) Matt, Liz, and Madeline chronicles the lives of a family unexpectedly ripped apart when Liz (the mother) died of a pulmonary embolism 27 hours after giving birth to her daughter Madeline. Written by Matt (Liz's husband and Madeline's father), this blog is one of the most powerful I have come across in quite some time.



2) What happens when you take Garfield out of the picture? You get Garfield minus Garfield...and a very disturbed Jon Arbuckle.



Happy Friday, everyone! I'll be gone this weekend but have a couple of posts scheduled for tomorrow. I still need to finish blogging about last weekend and will try to get to that tonight.

Double Exposure #6

This week I've reacquainted myself with lorcal on flickr, because she's been posting some really amazing photos. I mean, wow.



Amazing, yes? I tend to think so. I would love to be as talented as her.

Paul Biddle is one of my favorite photographers of all time. His work is so different; it teeters on the edge of surrealism at times and definitely goes over that edge in other photos. I love his wild creativity; it gives me chills.



Good photography makes me happy. If it makes you just as happy, perhaps you should consider ordering this book and celebrating the art of Polaroid. The book's release is particularly timely with Polaroid's decision to not produce instant film anymore. Please go here to save Polaroid!



Happy Friday, everyone! And it's a very happy Friday, indeed, because this is the last full week of classes for this academic year. Another reason this is a very happy Friday is because I have a really great weekend planned. It will, of course, be tempered with the inevitable homework, but it's still going to be totally awesome.

Double Exposure #5

Howdy and happy Friday! Today I'm going to bypass the photography again and talk about a couple of other blogs I like to visit.

First up: Indexed. This blog is awesome. It cracks me up. Here's why:







Hilarious, yes? I definitely think so.

All righty, the next blog that I must tell you about this week is The Dairi Burger. The writer of this blog re-explores young girls' favorites such as Sweet Valley High and Baby-Sitter's Club. It is yet another die-laughing blog (written in the same satirical vein as BSC Headquarters) that you (yes, you) must visit.

Perhaps the best part of this blog is that she sometimes makes LOLcat-type captions for book covers. Check it out:



Because of this blog, I've started stocking up on Sweet Valley High and Christopher Pike books for summer reading. Let's face it: I can't be bothered to read anything difficult for fun this summer. It's just not going to happen.

Oh, and my teaching today went totally fabulously. I also turned in my proposal. For the time being, all is right with the world. I hopefully will have some time to blog about the experience this weekend. It really had a wonderfully positive effect on me. Thanks for believing in me, interpeeps.

Double Exposure #4

Today's Double Exposure post is going to be a little different. While there's a plethora of good photography out there just waiting to be showcased here, I want to instead turn your attention to two blogs I love. I'm picking these blogs because today they've made me feel better.

itty bitty kitty committee is a blog about foster kittens. What's not to love about kittens?



I love that these women take in these baby kittens until they can find them good homes. I would love to foster animals someday as well.

The second blog is not nearly as light, but it's just as necessary. It's called Dear God. Here's a post that really resonated with me - it's from Trent in Los Angeles:

Dear God,

I am really worried about the current state of the world. People are working way too hard; almost no one I know enjoys life even though they are touted as "accomplished." There are still so many injustices; gay people are thrust into deviant acts out of passive rebellion to established authorities and women are still second class citizens in many societies. Body image controls the media and chips at so many people. What ever happened to those thoughts and feelings of purity when we were young? Do those ever return? Please God, bring back that sense of innocence and freedom. We’re all dying here. Bring back honesty, love, and care to the world. Please.

I am not a religious person by any means, but this blog touches me deeply. We all need something to believe in, whether it's some manifestation of a god or just ourselves. And in my opinion, it's not to whom these letters are being written that really matters; it's the fact that they are being written at all.

These photos make me want to meditate. I love how they capture both stillness and movement at the same time. He does also produce color images, but I love love love these.

Double Exposure #1

I am so glad it's Friday. Not only do I have two days off from work, I got my new lens, filter, and photography book in the mail today - just in time for weekend exploring!

So I have become obsessed with flickr. I subscribe to I-don't-know-how-many feeds, and I don't know how I lived without it before. It is such an amazing space full of beautiful photos and tons of inspiration. There is so much talent out there; it's amazing to see so much of it in one place. I can only dream of producing such gorgeous photos, but let's face it - I do fantasize about it.

Because I love flickr (and photography) so much, I thought it might be fun to do a recurring post showcasing some different photographs/photographers I've noticed. "Photographic Friday" sounds really cheesy, but I can't think of anything else right now. So, if you have any ideas, let me know.

Now, onto the good stuff!

One of the first flickr people that I started paying attention to is lauren {elycerose}. Her photos are seriously amazing, especially her nature pictures. Love them.



Holy crap. Color me insanely jealous of this woman's talent.

Next up is Metro Blue Photography. I actually know the husband and wife team (Jacob and Tanya) who run this business. My family has known Jacob's family for-flipping-ever. Jacob and my brother (who, by the way, just started his own blog here on Blogger) were even each other's best men at their weddings.

Anyway, I recently reconnected with Jacob and Tanya and found out about their wedding and portrait photography business. They are really talented. Check 'em out:
