Ugly Week

Have you ever had those days where you just felt ugly?

I have pretty much felt like that all week. It all started last week when I began breaking out. By last weekend I had a good amount of zits on my face, and because I'm pasty white, they were really obvious. I don't think I've ever had that many zits at one time, not even during puberty.

On Monday morning, Roy and I went to the doctor. I found out that I've gained 10 pounds since October, which means that I am now officially overweight. My doctor didn't seem too concerned, but I have to confess - I really am. I am the girl who, for most of her life, had a hard time keeping weight on. Now all of a sudden I'm overweight?! (But really, who am I kidding? I should have seen this coming.)

To combat the pimples and at a co-worker's suggestion, I went to a local salon that carries Bare Escentuals makeup. This really nice guy fixed me all up with some concealer, foundation, lip plumper, and bronzer. I really liked the way I looked, especially because the eruptions on my face had magically disappeared! The best part is that it was all free. He ordered a starter kit for me, and I was really excited to use some makeup that actually provides good coverage.

And then I woke up yesterday morning, and my entire face was red and blotchy. I can only assume that I had a bad reaction to the makeup, because I didn't do anything else differently. I am seriously bummed because I managed to develop an unhealthy attachment to that makeup for the 8 whole hours it was on my face.

Today my face isn't red anymore, but it is now extremely dry. Just another part of ugly week, I guess.

Anyway, I do have good news. I started working out this week. I've done power yoga twice (for 30 minutes each time) and added in some weights last night. My plan is to try to work out at least 4-5 days a week. I'm starting easy and am feeling great so far (but I'm sore). I also really need to work on changing my eating habits. It feels so hard because I'm such a picky eater.

I am officially taking recommendations for good, natural makeup products. Let me know what you can come up with.

I like Aveda products...

I know Kiss My Face and Aubrey products are all natural, maybe you would react better to that. They sell them at Clark's.

Dude. Jupming in the Ugly Week boat. :(

It'll get better next week.

Hey, Leslie, it will all get better. I am right there with you!

p.s. L'Oreal has a new mineral based foundation which I like but mineral makeup may just be too drying.

From the above comments- I like Kiss My Face and Aveda, too!

Patience and relaxation are the key -- which I can sadly testify to after a week of truly horrific skin that harkened back to the most awkward days of 10th grade.

I use Bare Minerals, too, and my new favorite find is their Rare Minerals blemish powder stuff. And my Aveda calming shower gel. It smells like the feeling you have after a fantastic massage.

Bare Minerals shouldn't cause you to break out as it's all natural :( Bummer. It's really my favorite makeup of all time. Many companies copy it, but none work quite as well... Mary Kay has a new minerals out now though - maybe that would work?

I broke out when I first used Bare Escentuals, but I learned that I had to change my skincare regime. My skin is super sensitive so I wound up switching to Philosophy and for the makeup - Bare Escentuals. Now I RARELY break out and that makeup - nirvana (well that and some really good Bobbi Brown eyeliner ;) )

Good luck!

I HATE those weeks! Proactive - changed my life. Really. Also, just bought Zeno on Amazon.com - LOVE IT! Like you, I am very fair and I also break out with big giant zits on my chin and forehead. The Zeno is great b/c you use it right when you feel them coming on and it totally works. Look into it...kinda expensive, but it's SO worth it. :)
