30 Days of Happiness, Day 14: Operation Purge

After yesterday's re-realizations, Roy and I decided to spend our Labor Day working.

We cleaned out the garage, wrote out a meal plan for the coming week, and went through our books for the eleventy-billionth time. We now have a nice big stack of books to post for sale in our Amazon book store.

I put all the books that I want to read on a separate bookshelf and was shocked to see that they filled the entire bookshelf. At the rate I'm going, I'll be working on reading these for the rest of my life.

It feels great to get rid of things. We tend to do a giant purge at least once a year. It's amazing how much junk you can accumulate in just a year. What's also amazing is how perspective concerning a certain thing (book, knicknack, etc) can radically change in a year's time. What was once hard to get rid of is now easier to leave behind.

I've decided that I'm going to do a monthly book giveaway here on my blog. On the 8th of every month, I'll host a book giveaway for all my readers to participate in. It'll be a great way to celebrate another month of Charlie's life as well as spread my love of reading (and get rid of some more books). The winner will pick his/her book of choice from our Amazon bookstore. I'll do this for as long as there's interest in the books we're getting rid of.

It just so happens that Charlie is turning three months old tomorrow, so watch for my giveaway post!

I LOVE the after part of purging my junk! It is hard though, as you mentioned, one can be SO attached to items!

I love your idea of a book giveaway! I'll stay tuned for sure :)

I so wish husband would have this attitude. I have an easy time letting go of things, but husband is a total pack rat. It drives me crazy. Our kids outgrow things...his solution? Pack them away, they may want them. Drives me bonkers. He keeps SO much and I just really want to go through his crap and secretly give it away. I say "his" cause I purge my junk once every couple of months.

Woohoo!
I finally signed up for Paper Back Swap and am about to send 5 of my books out, tomorrow.
It is hard to part with things sometimes, but definitely necessary, on some level.

Love that idea!! Congrats on getting some purging done this weekend. I'm afraid that I did right the opposite - my fabric stash seems to keep growing by leaps and bounds. :/
