30 Days of Happiness, Day 9: A Happy, Healthy, Chubby Baby Boy

September got off to a good start today, as Roy and I took Charlie for his three month well check-up. I had a ton of anxiety about this appointment. For the last five weeks I have pretty much been obsessing over his food intake. But really, can you blame me?

Anyway, the doctor checked Charlie out and said he had no concerns. He didn't even mention Charlie's weight, which was kind of the focus of our last appointment. When he wrote out Charlie's current percentiles, he even said he wasn't sure why he writes them out, because percentiles are basically useless and change all the time. I was relieved but a little peeved because I've spent the last five weeks worrying about Charlie being overweight. Next time I'm going to trust my mother's intuition and take that kind of advice with a grain of salt.

Here are Charlie's stats:

Weight: 17 lbs, 4 oz (greater than 95th percentile)
Height: 24.5 inches (75th percentile)
Head Circumference: 16.73 inches (75th percentile)

So Charlie's weight gain has slowed down, which is great. I am not concerned about him being overweight, but I have to admit that I worry about him outgrowing his car seat before he has great head control and can sit up well. (It has a 22 lb. limit.) I guess we'll just cross that bridge when we get there.

A couple of things of note:

1) Charlie did so great when we put him on his tummy to show the doctor how he is at holding up his head. Just a short month ago, he was the King of Faceplants, but now he can hold his head up so well. I seriously almost cried. I am so mad that I didn't get a photo, but I did get one later on at home.

2) The doctor commented on our use of cloth diapers and said that we are probably the last people in the world using them. If only he knew...

While we waited for the nurse to come in and give Charlie his vaccinations, we did a mini photo shoot.

Charlie got three shots today. He did cry (okay, scream) but after his screaming sessions on Sunday, this felt really tame. I held him and soothed him for a few minutes and then passed him over to Roy to get some dad lovin'. Charlie immediately stopped crying and gave me one of his giant gummy grins. I told him he was a total faker, and Roy said, "Nah, he just needed to see you." (Swoon. I love being Charlie's main source of comfort.)

By the time I got Charlie home, he was like this in his car seat:

I was able to get him to take one "normal" nap today and the other was in his bouncy chair, which was totally fine by me because I didn't want to take him outside at all because of all the ash from the fires. So we did a lot of hanging out inside together, mostly on the couch, but of course we walked around a lot and lounged on the bed and rolled around on the floor and stared at each other and had very serious conversations about the state of the economy.

The cats were exceptionally cute today.

Oh, and Charlie laid on his side for the first time today.

In many ways, it was a normal day, but every day with Charlie is an amazing adventure, and I am just so proud to be his mom. No matter how little sleep I get, the moments that I have shared with Charlie are so worth it - and our bond will last a lifetime.

(Seriously, though. Mommy's still really fucking tired. Up for four hours last night! Four hours!)

Glad you had a good day, though sorry about being so tired! Your blog is a good reality check for a pregnant girl like me :) BTW, we plan to use cloth diapers also :) What are you using?

Wow, so far from being the last people on the planet using CDs. Ha!

I'm so happy to see he got his shots - see my latest post for my vaccine rant. Heh.

Charlie is a really freaking cute little baby!
