Summertime

I hate summer.

It's always been my least favorite season. I've only lived in two different states (Texas and California), so summer for me has always been humid as balls or hot as balls. I don't really do well with heat, as it tends to give me lots of headaches and all that. It gets so hot here that the smog just hangs in the air like a massive brown blanket. Plus I'm a total whitey and thus am concerned about my skin, so I avoid the sun as much as possible. And I'm not a good swimmer and I'm not a fan of public pools, nor do I really care for the beach (because of the sand), so I have spent a lot of summers indoors.

I'm just a big ol' funbag, aren't I?

But this summer has been truly great so far. Maybe it's because we kicked it off with an awesome family visit and a big birthday extravaganza. Maybe it's because I am slowly but surely purging a lot of the chaos from our life. Maybe it's because having a kiddo makes me more flexible and fun. Maybe it's because I've decided to live slowly and deliberately, to let go and be still.

Whatever the case, June totally kicked ass, and I'm expecting the same from July. (You hear that, July?) Here's a collection of some of the little things that have been making me happy this summer.

Pretty toenails...

a shelf of books to admire (and possibly read)...

lots of yummy produce from the CSA...

many tubs of body butter to choose from...

a new water bottle...

a freezer full of otter pops...

a collection of CDs that are begging to be heard...

a pair of heart-shaped sunglasses)...

and a cute little boy who loves his trike from grandma.

(I love how he randomly laughs throughout this video!)

Despite all these joy-inducing things, I can't guarantee that I won't turn into the biggest bitch ever once I hit the third trimester in August and get hugely swollen and have to pee every five minutes. Stay tuned.

I'm with you on the summer thing. I hate the heat. Today it was 100 degrees here in MA. I like the Fall and Spring, I dislike Summer and Winter.

I'm jealous of your body butter, I love that stuff!

Any time people post pictures of their bookshelves I feel compelled to look closely and see what they have that I've read or like to read! I see Little Women peeking out! Good story!

glad you're enjoying your summer!

What kind of trike does C have? He seems to really enjoy it and we are looking to get one for J.
